From Trabzon to Ankara, and on to Cleveland Clinic Ohio and the University of Freiburg — a journey where an academic career meets clinical medicine.
Inspired by his father, a schoolteacher from Trabzon, Dr. Tonyalı graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2009, then began his urology residency at the Department of Urology, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine.
During his residency, he spent two months as an observer in the departments of urology and general surgery at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, in the United States. His specialty training focused mainly on endourology, laparoscopic urology, uro-oncology and kidney transplantation.
In 2015, in Brussels, Belgium, he passed the examination and earned the FEBU (Fellow of European Board of Urology) title of the European Association of Urology. After his specialty training, he worked at Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital and Ankara City Hospital, performing tertiary-level operations.
Since 2019 he has served as a faculty member at the Department of Urology, Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. In 2020 he earned the title of Associate Professor from the Interuniversity Council, and in 2022–2023 he focused on HoLEP surgery and lasers at Universitätsklinikum Freiburg in Germany.
Dr. Tonyalı has 75 articles published in international scientific journals and an h-index of 11. He also has numerous articles in Turkish journals, along with book chapters and translated articles.
